High Resolution Freehand 3 D Ultrasound

چکیده
This paper describes a high resolution freehand 3D ultrasound system, whose accuracy surpasses that of previously documented systems. Such accuracy is achieved through a series of novel system design and calibration techniques. The accuracy is quantified using a purpose-built, tissue-mimicking phantom, designed to create idealised in vivo scanning conditions. The paper includes a thorough discussion of the various different ways of measuring system accuracy and their relative merits, and compares in this context all recently documented freehand 3D ultrasound systems.

Correction of Probe Pressure Artifacts in Freehand 3 D Ultrasound — Initial Results
We present an algorithm which combines non-rigid image-based registration and conventional position sensing to correct probe-pressure-induced registration errors in freehand three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound volumes. The local accuracy of image-based registration enables the accurate freehand acquisition of high resolution (> 15MHz) 3D ultrasound data, opening the way for 3D musculoskeletal exa...
متن کاملFreehand ultrasound elastography with a 3-D probe.
This paper presents the first near-real-time freehand ultrasound elastography system using a (3-D) mechanical probe. Acquisition is complete within two sec, and only an additional 20 sec are required for generation of a full 3-D strain volume. The strain is axial, with estimates of lateral and elevational tissue movement used to increase the accuracy of the axial strain measurement. This is the...
متن کامل3D Elastography Using Freehand Ultrasound
We present an elastography system using freehand 3D ultrasound. A review is provided of the standard elastography methods that have been adapted for this purpose. The scanning protocol is simple and promising results are presented of 3D strain images from freehand scans. Robustness is a problem, however, and the main sources of error are explained. Measures have been developed to improve the qu...
متن کامل3-D ultrasonic strain imaging using freehand scanning and a mechanically-swept probe.
This paper compares 2 approaches to 3-D ultrasonic axial strain imaging: a tracked ultrasound probe swept manually over a volume, and a mechanically-swept 3-D probe. We find that high-quality data are more easily obtained using the 3-D probe, but the freehand approach may be more practical in certain scanning situations.
متن کاملHigh Resolution Three-Dimensional Ultrasound Individual Grant Review Report
Freehand 3D ultrasound is acquired by attaching a position sensor to the probe of a conventional 2D diagnostic ultrasound machine. As the clinician moves the probe, its position and orientation is recorded with respect to some fixed datum. The 2D ultrasound images are also recorded. If both the images and the position readings are independently time-stamped then they can be matched up to create...
